March Snippets

March and April are always such busy months for us.  I usually just let the ole' blog fall to they wayside, but I'm trying to do better this year.

Here are a few March highlights that didn't get their own post.

 

David made this cool rocket ship at school.  I did not save it so I had to take a photo.  He loves all things SPACE!

 

 

Kid's watching Wreck-It-Ralph in our bedroom.  We affectionately call Luke "Wreck-It-Luke" because he is so destructive.  The movie is really cute and so is Luke!

 

Claire painted this picture in an after-school art class she took this winter.

David tries really hard to keep busy in the afternoons while I work a couple of hours after he gets home from preschool.

 

Sometimes I just put out a bunch of craft items and let him go to town!  It gets pretty messy!

 

And sometimes he spills a container of dry beans and pasta on the floor and dresses up like a pirate.

 

We played soccer this spring.  And it was cold for most of the games.  38 degrees the last game on April 20th!  We've had to bundle up this season. 

 

Claire finally got some PINK soccer shoes.  Before we've always gotten neutral shoes to pass down to her brothers.  I finally caved on the pink ...

 

Luke needs lots of snacks to keep him entertained at soccer.

 

And he has a nice big boo-boo on his cheek where he fell out of a chair at the kitchen table.

 

Claire went to a roller skating birthday party.  They wear me out!!  She had so much fun though, I had to drag her out of there.  After about an hour of skating round and round, she finally got the hang of it.  I'm just glad I didn't have to skate too.

It snowed on March 26th-the week of spring break.  Not much, but SNOW!  SPRING BREAK!

 

Luke and I got to hang out a couple of days while Claire and David were at spring break camp.  I've never been home alone with him much and we had a grand time!

 

Palm branches from church on Palm Sunday.  Luke was a big fan!

Will has been practicing his guitar here and there.  The kids like it when he plays "Our God" which is slow-going at times.

 

 

Claire has been making her bed every morning-a new chore.  It's not as neat as I would like it but it's made.  It's hard for me not to go in there and re-do it, but I'm trying to let those things go!

 

 

David has been working on riding his bike without training wheels.  He does pretty good but hasn't picked it up as fast as Claire did.  (I think Claire was older when we taught her.)

 

 

There he goes.

 

And down he goes.  We're not quite ready to move to the blacktop yet.

Grandparents' Day

Luke's school had a grandparents brunch a few weeks ago.  Luke was lucky enough to have all 4 of his grandparents attend.

 

Claire was there too.  One of the other moms snapped this cute picture of those two eating.

 

 

Before the brunch, Luke's class did a little performance of "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Twinkle, Twinkle".  When Luke saw his grandparents, he refused to participate.   See below.

 

 

He finally stood with his RiRi (Will's mom) and kind of sang along.  In his defense, I took him to the doctor at lunch that day and he had a double ear infection.  He was just not feeling 100% that morning and seeing all of his grandparents and his mommy and not being able to go to them was hard on the little boy!

 

I was disappointed though because his teachers had told me that he was the best performer when they practiced in the weeks leading up to the performance.

I love to color!

Luke absolutely loves to color.  Or "ka wer" as he so cutely says.

 

He does not like to color alone either.  He will often say "kawer me" and pull me over to the table and force a crayon into his hand.

 

 

He doesn't really have a preference for one crayon over the other (skinny versus fat).  I'm just glad he doesn't eat them anymore.

 

He will usually just color with one of two colors on each page.  But he is clearly trying to color just over the picture instead of all over the page.

 

This has all just started in January since he started going to daycare on MWF.  I'm thankful for the improvement in his fine motor skills.

 

I got these seasonal coloring books for the kids here.  I usually just upload them to a local office store and have 3 copies printed, three-hole punch them and then place them in a clear-cover folder to make a "book".  Luke always knows to look for his name (David gets VERY upset if anyone colors in his book) and says "Luke paper".

Spring Break: 2013

This homeschooling mama sure was ready for spring break week.  David and Luke were out of their church preschool, but Luke still went to his daycare on MWF and I had debated just not giving Claire a spring break and finishing up the school year earlier.  However, the Thursday before spring break, there was a groupon-type deal for half-price spring break camp at a local indoor playpark.  Ummm, two please? 

 

{I had already come to the conclusion that I simply could not get any work done with David there all week.  He is not the best at entertaining himself and if Claire was trying to do school, he would really be bored.}

 

The schoolroom took a week off!

 

 

David left me a picture list of thing to do while he was at camp.  Some of the pictures include making his bed, loading the dishwasher and apparently doing something with a wooden mallet?

 

This is what the kids did all day.  Each day had a "theme" of some American city or landmark (like Alaska, NYC, Mt. Rushmore, etc.).  They really had a good time.  There was a lot of just free play too, of course.

The play park has free WIFI so I stayed and worked one day when I picked them up and they had a snow cone treat.
