This was one of my favorite weeks of the year. Both of my kids love rainbows and we had lots of fun activities to do.
As usual, the bulk of our activities came from Confession of a Homeschooler's LOTW curriculum. A few other activities came from 1+1+1=1's Rainbow tot pack.
For our do-a-dot Rr page, we used white dot stickers that were colored rainbow colors and David had to make a rainbow pattern. This boy is good with patterns.
For snack one day, we made rainbow cupcakes. Color mixers ready!
(This is white cake mix equally divided between 6 bowls.)
We got lots of color mixing review in while we did this.
Layered into the muffing time before baking.
After baking ... more of a marble look than the layers that I was hoping for.

We did several activities based one of our favorite childrens' books ... Elmer by David McKee.
(Elmer is a rainbow elephant.)

Science experiments from The Magic School Bus "Mysteries of Rainbows" science kit. This blogger does a much better job or explaining these experiments. Regardless, my kids loved them and still ask to do them all the time. We did the color mixing experiment twice (until I ran out of milk).
Supplies: 1 cup of milk, dishwashing soap and red, blue and yellow food coloring.
Pour milk in bowl and add 3 drops of each color food coloring.
Do not move the bowl. This is what it looked like after 10 minutes.
This is about an hour later. You should be able to see the whole spectrum of rainbow colors.

On Friday of Rainbow week, we had a rainbow lunch. I didn't really plan on doing this until the night before so I had to get a little creative. I fixed the kids a sandwich and then we all kind of snacked from the tray.
Red: strawberries and apples
Orange: sweet potato veggie chips and red pepper hummus
Yellow: bananas and wheat thins
Green: edamame and guacamole
Blue: blueberries and blue corn tortilla chips
Purple: red grapes and purple Easter candy
And this was my messy kitchen after making the rainbow lunch. Just keeping it real!
