"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV).
Our Sunday School class has decided to select a verse each month to mediate on, memorize, teach our children, etc. This is our verse for July. I love The Message version, which reads:
"God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. Glory to God in the church! Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus! Glory down all the generations! Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!"
Reading this verse was a very fitting way to start this week. I say that because two couples we know who are going through the adoption process both received amazing news this week.
(1) Joey and Courtney got the go ahead to leave for Ethiopia and pick up baby Bristol this weekend. They were originally slated to leave in late-July. Bristol will join Joey & Courtney and their three other children and their new family will soon leave to serve as missionaries in South Africa for the next two years.
(2) This week, Clay and Emily met a birth mother who has chosen them to be the forever family of her son, who will be born in September. You can read more about their story here.
In a world where there seems to be much pain and heartache (and lots of blaming and questioning of God) it is nice to be reminded that God can and will do things in the lives of his children that are above and beyond what we could ever imagine.
Please say a prayer for these two sweet couples and they are embarking on these new journeys in life.
